What's with First Person in Erotic Romances???

Okay, I am feeling the need to rant about something. I honestly HATE first person erotic romances. I am more tolerant about reading them, than what I used to be...but honestly, I really, REALLY, REALLY don't like them.
Most of my friends agree. I wonder if it is easier to write in first person than in third. I'll have to ask some of my writer friends, but even the writer friends I have seem to not really like them either.
Unfortunately, some of my favorite writes almost write novels exclusively in first person. Bobby Michaels, Josh Lanyon and Rowan McBride almost ALWAYS write in first person. I just don't get it!
I feel cheated because I don't know what is going on in the other character's head. I think the erotic moments aren't as erotic either...it's too one sided.
Anyway, I feel better now. Hopefully, I am not the only one out there that feels this way.

  1. I do agree! As a reader, I most definitely agree. I love Josh's books, but damn I wish he'd cut out that first person. He's one of the few writers that I will read in spite of it.

To me, speaking only as a reader at the moment, I want both protags points of view. Heck, I even like the villians if there is one. And I agree a love scene in first person does not do it for me. Sorry.

As a writer, it's not easier for me. In fact, I don't think I could write in first person without sounding really cheesy. You will never read a book from me in first person and you will probably never even read a book from me from only one character's point of view even in third person. I know lots of authors I enjoy who write like that, but as a writer, not for me.
